Chloe x Halle Need A Speakerboxxx/ Love Below Moment

If your Black, you already know the Cotllion events for young family members that feature a little girl in long white gloves, singing like a grown church lady. You know, the events with frape and pairs of kids dancing to Black Butterfly with synchronized hand gestures. You show up to show support but think this is some bougie ass shit.

That’s basically Chloe and Halle Bailey’s vibe right now. When I see them I’m waiting on them to breakout speaking with an attitude about a Maya Angelou poem.

When Chole dropped she was clearly the chill one and Halle was laid back one. It was refreshing seeing relaxed young Black women, not being so bothered about issues to the point they were obnoxious.

But we’re missing out on some really progressive R&B if the industry keeps them in a false performer box. They need to break away from their team and start experimenting with folk music and more dreampop, shoegaze. We’re talking not SZA, like Corinne Bailey Rae or Raphael Saadiq producing Kelis’ Marathon, blow that up and then take that further.

Hearing their works individually, their sound and ability could easily be stronger together but they need to spend a summer overseas, or in the weird Austin scene to take their instrument playing experiences to new level.

It feels like they’re being sabotaged at a time when Black artists are being allowed to experiment more, with fans more open to understanding that experimental sound. They need to stay away from the fake deep Kanye West plagerism culture or the pseudo habit trying to be deep without depth. They should be allowed to find their own voice, they’ve lived a life at this point so, it’s there.

The reality, they’ve out classed most of their peers and this is typically what happens when the “stars” around simply have a name but not the ability of to match performers too new to be deemed peers.

You can see the influence of Beyonce’s harmonizing but since they play instruments, they should take that harmonizing and go where most popular Black female artists aren’t going. Then take it there and feature other artists sharing that experimental sound.

i personally like them. I like they’re ability to act, and they’re ability to recover from PR disasters. But it’s time to let someone else manage them who really understands music beyond marketing. They are true artist artists. And together they should’ve received accolades a long time ago.

They have Outkast level potential and it’s time to stop playing around and waisting their time. They have more to offer musically.
