Children of Blood & Bone appears as a non sanitized Black Panther, leaning big Hoodoo/Orisha spirituality and culture. If you’ve seen American Gods Season 3, or read Anansi Boys from Neil Gaiman, you’d probably understand the premise more than people who simply see this as an Amazon 365 version of the Black Panther franchise.
The fantasy culture industry is already a $16.4 billion industry and the current Orisha culture interest. With anything discussing Pre Christianity of Black culture, it might even start a counter culture of Black Christian media and see an additional increase in Black fantasy/religious content. it may seem like just a movie but, there is a clear plan to create a cultural awakening in the fantasy market for Black youth. Who win in the end, lets just see. Its just weird the trailer came out the same day as the Haitian TPS order expired.
The film is based on the novel, Children of Blood and Bone, a young-adult fantasy novel by Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi. The film is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and features a bunch of top industry actors. The goal is to clearly promote a new crop of actors with the featured cast as Damson Idris, Amandla Stenberg and a different woman king, Thuso Mbedu.
The movie is loaded with Oscar winners and nominees such as Viola Davis (who played in the film The Woman King), Cynthia Erivo, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Regina King all who have a gang action and fantasy film experiences between each other.
The story is based on the series that draws heavily on West African mythology and culture to explore themes of oppression, genocide, and rebellion.” The release date January 15 is considered the universal Orisha Celebration holiday, so there is a clear push to promote this movie to bring up a conversation not fully had by the Black Panther franchise and thats moving Western Fantasy into cultural fantasy/religion that might expand past film interest.
