Claudette Colvin, the original victim, that started the Bus Boycott more notably known by Rosa Park, passed January 13, 2026. Her legacy is remembered through the Claudette Colvin Foundation.

Claudette Colvin’s legacy started at 15 yrs old, as a student in Montgomery, Alabama. Her refusal to give up her bus seat to a white woman on March 2, 1955, made her an early and pivotal figure in the modern civil rights movement.

She later became a key plaintiff in the federal case that struck down bus segregation in Montgomery and remained relatively little known compared with Rosa Parks.
Historians estimate that the Montgomery City Lines bus company lost roughly $3,000 per day during the Montgomery Bus Boycott, adding up to around $1.11 million dollars ($12-14 Million, 2026) over the 381‑day protest.
