If you take an adult who decides to take education seriously at 28, they then take up the resources for those at 18 ready to enter college or the workforce.
If you take adults 35 and older, who finally become college educated (with a Bachelors), they eventually get hired over a 25 year old college graduate. Now that 25 yr old grad is sitting around waiting on those late stage adults to move up, access entry level job options, and then “life starts”. Its usually a decade before those openings are available again, and now you have a now 26 yr old with a college degree, $100k in college debt, working at an Amazon fulfillment center, until they get their chance for a real salary at 35.
10 x 10 x 10 x 10
Every decade for the past 4 decades, the cycle of career entry-level workers, get comfortable and don’t move. They either get fired or use that 5-9 years of experience to get another job at entry level with slightly hire pay, performing low productivity, and end up with difficult attitudes towards necessary professional development.
During that time you have youth sitting around waiting on the supposed upward career channels to open, running in place, until the older adults move up or get pushed out. This results in no upward career movement, no entry level offers, and then for the next generation of workers, its the lie of paying dues of waiting in line, so on and so on. Suddenly, those “young adults” now become those same old adults that blocked them 10 years prior.
This has been America’s work pattern for 40 years. This doesn’t even factor in additional shift in higher level jobs that only JUST started hiring in the late 80s, with White women, Black educated, first college gen’s, and ESL workers partially involved in high level, economic participation.
Thou Shall Not Covet
A few weeks ago Oprah talked about young people, “Work-Life balance” and waiting being a part of the process. And while her idea of working hard to get to the next level were all facts, the reality is that after the 90s, young people had to fight against an unspoken villain, culture competition. The culture of gatekeeping, nepotism, cronyism, and career coveting (also categorized with racist hiring) really did F’up America’s advantage. For many workers, especially Black educated, they basically would burn themselves out, only to really be looked at professionally when they turned 40, despite being ready to work high-level jobs at 25-28 yrs old.
Life Starting At 40 is A Toxic Work Expectation
For many Black educated youth (and now other races), Millennials in particular didn’t know that all that straight A, college plan shit would be a waste of time, especially if the jobs weren’t there for them when they were done. By the late 1990s people got old, looked around and saw people’s lives improving and said hey we want some of that too! Those Aunties suddenly got that night school degree but, brought their bottom feeding mindset to areas that required collaboration. Those HNs (Hood Ninjas) started trying to function like square college boys, and brought that jail scavenger mentality to situations that requires professional sacrifice. DACAs thought they were White and rebooted racism in areas where Whites actually chilled out. The H1bs? They saw all Americas as stupid making it unbearable to team build, and poor Whites still saw everyone Black as Welfare Queens and Pookies. Basically everyone with a chip on their shoulder stifled professional culture, bringing toxic insecurities to the workplace. By the early 2000s, America was no longer a 1,2,3 situation.
Other Countries Brought Their BS Work Culture
Unlike Europe, Asia, the Middle East, etc America for a short moment in the late 70’s started to utilize all tools in its toolkit. This means in countries that didn’t hire women, America did. America for a hot moment was the country where Blacks weren’t subjugated to low income labor jobs, allowed that HBCU grad to get that corporate opportunity or a Nigerian h1b to become a doctor. Generationally American immigrants could work without Xenophobia and college grads knew a job in their field was at least possible. But then around 9/11 all of that ended. Now with 9/11 being 25 years ago, the paranoia within America made other cultures in America feel justified in bias. And this was a slow trickle from the Regan era and the 7th wave of post war migrations from other countries.

It was like all the progress went away and the nader was in 2002, where suddenly being profiled was back. Assuming everything Black was gonna rob you, with the fear and economic instability fueling the worst in everyone. Suddenly all of the generational immigrants in America started showing their true colors and White people learned the hard way that their Chilean Republican neighbor, turned Socialist real fast when money was on the line. I remember getting racially profile in job interview, and thinking didn’t YOU called me? lol. Strange things started happening.
I Don’t Get It But, I Get It
Right now to fix this, there has be a reset. In America, this can’t be owned by any one race. I know a lot of White conspiracy theorist keep calling this and that “Woke.” Any adjustment to toxic work habits is suddenly met with protest by Socialism supporters but, the reality none of this would be a problem if everyone participating bias, didn’t justify it with who loves/hates America the most.
30+ years of hiring non productive people to fill a quota isn’t MAGA either. America’s workforce culture is childish, petty, and completely unproductive because the primer started when older adults kept trying to cover up the poor life choices they made in 1970s and 1980s. Even with less barriers than their parents, they still started late in life, only to be actively envious of younger people who faced less social obstacles by the 90s. For years many older workers were given grace due to redlining, racism, and 1980s recession. We get it, sh!t was counterproductive. But then these same groups would start entering spaces, where they refused to upgrade. They eventually created a culture that started dumbing down the workplace to control something meant to evolve. They refused to learn how to integrate and then gaslight the country when they failed to do, covering up deficiencies with political stances that don’t have sh!t do to with anything.
Sit Aside or Move
Older Adult worker’s insecurity has to be fixed and the reality is that AI (used correctly) can quickly fill in those service gaps, so we can see skill deficiencies. AI can’t be left completely alone and people are still needed to manage it but, we are 30 years behind due to this Boomer/Gen X worker lag. They have been blocking work place innovation for decades and controlling the research that really gets into the asses of what the real problems we are experiencing. Conveniently leaving out their roles in their bias research models, blaming all the other generations and politics to cover up systemic sh!t that implicates them too.
We are facing a 20+ technology gap due to late stage Adults being stubborn about tech usage and necessity. Their refusal has created a divide between modern workforce needs and kids requiring higher expectations with technology to get hired. When you look at the late 70s, technology was welcomed when the workers were qualified. But late stage adults control the workforce culture and they are afraid of losing control of the low level money they’ve dominated for 40 years. See, instead of admitting that they are lagging, they’ve resorted to sabotaging the even younger generation (once again) by creating an Anti tech culture, putting younger kids in a position to be mangled professionally, placing them in even lower food chain opportunities. Cycle completed.
So in a decade the next generation will be unable to compete at higher levels. Becoming once again the new generation of late stage-workers trying fit in high skilled spaces, slowing down that progress until the next decade creeps up. In the end all these degrees and false experiences are creating a cycle of delusional, entitled workers that want the high level authority, but practice low professional awareness, and little accountability that comes with high wage jobs. Its a shit show all around.
